From the 1974 Album Friction (STAX 5507) is this beautiful track. The singing is perfect starting with the soulful lead to the polished background harmonizing. I also love the sparse but catchy use of the guitar.
The Soul Children were a creation of Isaac Hayes and David Porter thought of as a replacement for Sam and Dave who had left STAX to join Atlantic Records. The group’s members were J. Blackfoot, former member of the post Otis Redding Bar-Kays (formed after the death of Otis and his band) Norm West, Anita Louis and Shelbra Bennett.
From their first album, The Soul Children, released in 1968, is the second track, The Sweeter He Is (parts 1 & 2).
You’ll find a good article about the group here.
