The Van Dykes — Doin’ The Best I Can

And we’re going slow today too .. It’s going to be 103 F today — so any action has to be kept at lowest speed.

Thr song can be found on Tellin’ It Like It Is: Mala Sessions

Enjoy!

  1. Great. More smooth soul.

  2. Alright. Smooth soul it will be.

  3. Van Dykes were one of the coolest soul groups. My favorite ballads include “No Man Is an Island,” “Never Let Me Go” and “You Need Confidence” — all Mala releases from mid-60’s. They also scored big in the Northern Soul clubs with dance tunes like “Save My Love For a Rainy Day.” Of course, the same group, recording earlier on Decca and King, was excellent — especially songs like “Come On Baby” on Decca (1959) and “The Bells Are Ringing” on King (1958).

  4. Thanks, Gary. I haven’t heard their early recordings — need to check and see if I can find them.
    Cheers
